The city is located in the heart of Fejér county, near the river Gaja, surrounded by beautiful hills and mountains; the city was initially built on four small islands, one of which is even today its center.
A thousand years ago Fejer county was the home of two of the greatest Hungarian rulers, Árpád and Géza, who transformed Szekesfehervar into an important political location – later a church was built there by St. Stephen as well as walls to protect the town, and for more than 500 years the place was sacred buriel ground for the most important Hungarian kings. Szekesfeherver is proud of its history, as it is of its beautiful Baroque downtown area as well: amazing churches, museums and palaces enchant visitors all over town.
What is interesting about Szekesfeherver today is that the historical past forms a perfect harmony with the modernity of an industial city. It has succeeded in keeping its ancient charm intact, but beside the old architecture it has created a modern base for a European level production. Commerce is blooming again, new jobs are being created, factories and shopping centers built and the strong economy has attracted many foreign investors.
Szekesfehervar is a friendly, pleasant town that welcomes tourists who want to discover the present of Hungary and also make a journey into its rich history.
